GIORGIO POETA ORGANIC SUNFLOWER HONEY
GIORGIO POETA ORGANIC SUNFLOWER HONEY
Every July, the rolling hills of Marche turn gold. Fields of sunflowers - girasole in Italian, "turn to the sun" - stretch along the Adriatic coast, and it is from these blooms that Giorgio Poeta harvests one of his most beloved honeys.
This honey is deep-yellow in colour, with a floral, citrusy aroma and a sweet intensity that carries notes of honeycomb and apricot jam, this is a honey that is immediately, unmistakably itself. What makes it exceptional is Poeta's own technique: developed to limit air during extraction, it produces a naturally cremoso texture — silky and spreadable — without the mechanical whipping used in conventional creamed honeys.
Giorgio Poeta came to beekeeping by chance, when his father gave him two beehives as a graduation gift. It was love at first sight. He studied agriculture, devoted himself entirely to his bees, and those two hives became 400 — each home to 70,000 bees — making him one of Italy's most respected honeymakers. He practices nomadic beekeeping, moving his hives to unspoiled, flower-rich places far from pesticides, guided by the belief that the beekeeper's first responsibility is to the bees and the landscape they inhabit.
Spread generously onto warm Huddle sourdough with salted butter, or pair with aged Asiago or a creamy Taleggio on a sharing board.
