Meet the baker

Hi, I’m Lindi!

Baking and gathering people around the table has been a constant thread throughout my life — a creative act, a way to show care, and an invitation to share in the simple joys of being together.

I grew up in South Africa, where my grandmother’s kitchen was always full of delicious smells. Food was more than nourishment; it was how she loved and welcomed others — anyone who might arrive unexpectedly. My first solo bake, a milk tart (a beloved South African custard tart), came from that kitchen when I was eleven.

I moved to Pasadena just before the pandemic, and during that time my sister and I felt as isolated as many of our unhoused neighbors. We began baking fresh loaves and handing out homemade sandwiches to those we met on the streets. Seeing people moved by the gesture — knowing the bread was made just for them — reminded us that food connects us in ways words cannot.

When my husband developed health issues, I set out to find a way for him to keep enjoying bread. That search led me to French-milled flours and slow, natural fermentation methods that make bread both wholesome and nourishing again. I now bake exclusively with European and organic flours, and I’ve loved exploring bread traditions across France and Italy, meeting millers and bakers who share this love for time-honored craft.

I would love to bake for you and your family!
